Billy
Cobham with his matchless, dazzling and ambidextrous style is one of
the few artists who have been recognized as World Class Master for a
career dedicated with the same intense passion in countless collaborations.
From his beginnings Billy Cobham develops as the innovative musician
that we know: historically through the long experiences with Miles Davis,
and through the collaborations with the Mahavisnu Orchestra of John
Mc Laughlin as well as, other performance situations, among them the
Grateful Dead. Figure of reference for generations, his fast and explosive
drumming, has created a category and also an important part of the modern
music history.In his 40-year-old career, he performed beside illuminated
jazzmen and other important names in the world of music. Amongst them
it is fundamental to cite: Horace Silver, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard,
Benny Golson, Stanley Turrentine, Larry Carlton, Oscar Peterson, Count
Basie, Ray Barreto, Roberta Flack, Stan Getz, Gary Husband, George Benson
and Peter Gabriel with which, among other projects, he has recorded
Passion for the “The last Temptation of Christ”sound-track
by Martin Scorsese.
With his personal musical imprint, that can be compared to great innovators
like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis or Jaco Pastorius.
His Album ¨Spectrum¨is considered one of the headlines
of the Jazz Rock of the XX Century, with over 7 millions of copies sold.
With his great musical personality, Cobham is one of
the few jazz percussionists that have founded own groups; among them
we cite the Dreams featured also siblings Randy and Michael Brecker
and John Abercrombie; Spectrum Band featuring Frank Gambale,
Tom Coster and Victor Bailey, Art of Three featuring Ron Carter and
Kenny Barron, The String Quartet featuring Didier Lockwood, Sylvain
Luc and Victor Bailey, Culture Mix Quintet: his main project
from 2001 worldwide on the road.
